Once again, I am back with my 3 things Bridgerton did right and 3 things it did wrong for Season 4 Part 2.
Missed the one for Bridgerton Season 4 Part 1? Check it out here
These are getting harder to stick to the format, but we shall persevere.
Without further ado…
Major spoilers for Bridgerton season 4
1. Francesca

Wow. Francesca (Hannah Dodd) stole the show in the second half of the series.
Was I expecting to sit with a box of tissues, sobbing through a whole episode?
No.
Should I have? Maybe.
It is Bridgerton after all, and Shondaland is not known for shying away from heartbreaking moments. It was excellently done, truly heartbreaking, and beautiful.
Hannah portrayed Francesca’s grief so beautifully.
I loved how the family came together, how the grief helped Benedict and Sophie bond a bit, and how it helped Benedict become clearer about what he wanted versus what society demands. It was the perfect way to weave the stories together.
2. Eloise

Writers, I apologize to you all. In my review of the first half of the season, I complained about how annoying Eloise was being. So stagnant and irritating. Well, in the second half, she took Hyacinth’s words to heart and really started a journey of growth.
Her conversation with Cressida was really touching; she tried to fix things with Hyacinth, and she really took to the big sister role to help Francesca. The biscuit scene at the funeral, while humorous, really showed how mature and living Eloise can be. And having her hold Francesca’s hand during the examination was masterful.
3. The Young Ones

If Hannah Dodd brought Francesca into the spotlight with her grief, then Will Tilston brought forth the silliness and romantic side of Gregory in a great and endearing way. It was adorable.
And the Hyacinth recital was great also. It was a lighthearted and good family rounding-out moment that also pushed the story forward.
3 Things Season 2 Did Wrong
I loved this season a lot! Not as much as season 1, but definitely more than 2 and certainly 3. That being said, there were some things I wanted them to do better.
1. Lady Whistledown

I LOVE that Penelope is stepping down, and I love that we have a new Whistledown whose identity no one knows. I think it’s brilliant. But the catalyst that forced Penelope to step down was lackluster.
Writing about a man’s mistress? Terrible to be sure, but Whistledown has destroyed so many lies, it’s crazy to think she now is worried about gossip hurting people. Perhaps a reckoning of the people she actually harmed (Daphne, Simon, Eloise, and of course, Marina) would have been better.
Then again, if this had been a bigger subplot, I would have been annoyed as well.
2. The Magic Wand

The very end of the series felt a little magic-wandish with the queen. We spent quite a few episodes stressing about the fallout of their relationship, only to see that it’s as easy as lying about her parents? I felt like this could have been dealt with a little more, and the end of this saga felt unsatisfying.
3. Aramanita

In the same vein, Araminta, as the villain of the story, didn’t get any sort of “punishment” or comeuppance. Seemingly she just moves on without any real reckoning and as the viewer i would have like the wicked witch to get some sort of satisfying conclusion. Oh well.
