If you saw the pictures from the Bridgerton Tudum global fan event in Brazil, you might have noticed there was plenty of carriage imagery. Most notably, we see Penelope stepping out of a carriage (and looking gorgeous, by the way) and Penny and Colin in the carriage. Was it thematic, or was this a hint to the carriage scene in the Bridgerton books?
Ok, back up… What’s the carriage scene, and what does it mean for Bridgerton, exactly?
Before I jump in, spoiler alert! If you haven’t read the Bridgerton books and don’t want spoilers, you should probably stop reading here. Leave with the knowledge that Netflix has hinted at something amazing in Season 3 of Bridgerton.
The Carriage Scene in Bridgerton: Explained
Now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk about the carriage scene in the Bridgerton books. I’m not going to get too detailed here, but basically, it’s a moment in the books where Penelope and Colin hook up in a carriage.
It’s not that no one has ever shown passion in Bridgerton before, of course, but the carriage scene holds special significance because it’s probably one of the hottest scenes in the books.
Since the show came out, fans have wondered if and how they’d bring that scene to the screen. And we’re still wondering, by the way! But with all that carriage imagery, I think it’s safe to say that Netflix won’t disappoint.
Why the Carriage at Tudum Is Symbolic
You might be thinking, “It’s just a carriage; they’re all over the show, don’t read too much into it,” – but that’s where you’re wrong. See, this isn’t the first time Netflix has hinted at upcoming spicy moments in their adaptation of Bridgerton.
Season 3 of Bridgerton has already been confirmed to focus on Colin and Penny’s relationship, AKA: Polin.
Fans assume that it will follow the fourth book in the Bridgerton series, Romancing Mr. Bridgerton. The Mr., in this case, is Colin.
The Mirror Scene
The carriage scene is part of a larger, particularly sexy part in the book that also includes what fans called “The Mirror Scene.” That’s already been hinted at by Netflix by including mirror emojis in a Season 3 social media post.
So considering Netflix has already been hinting at Season 3 spice, and we have pictures of Penny and Colin in a carriage, I think it’s safe to say that we’ll see something in Season 3.
How Spicy Will Season 3 of Bridgerton Get?
Both the carriage scene and the mirror scene are expected in Season 3 of the Netflix series, but how spicy did they get in the Bridgerton books?
While the mirror scene is implied, the carriage scene is a very steamy encounter between Penny and Colin. If Netflix sticks to the book, then we can expect a super hot Season 3!
The Viscount Who Loved Me
It’s well known by fans of the series that the fourth book is even spicier than book two, The Viscount Who Loved Me, that Season 2 was based on.
Of course, Netflix could also take it further. Other period dramas made by Netflix, like The Witcher, both contain pretty explicit sex and nudity, so it’s not something the company is opposed to.
Given that Bridgerton already has an adult rating and audience, it’s entirely possible for the producers to turn up the heat in Season 3 with the carriage scene – even past what the books show (or don’t show).
Whether that actually happens, though, remains to be seen.
Is the Polin Carriage Scene Confirmed for Season 3?
Fans speculating about Season 3’s carriage scene (and what it may hold) will be happy to know it was confirmed back in 2022.
Given that this is the first season that features Penny’s love life, many folks were asking Nichola Coughlan how she was feeling going into Season 3.
Here’s what she said in an interview with Digital Spy:
“There’s a scene in the carriage. And it’s just if they’re sort of arguing and then it all gets very romantic, shall we say, but I think it will be such a good scene in the show. It terrifies me to think of filming, but I think it would be really great.”
So there you have it: The carriage scene is confirmed in Season 3 of Bridgerton!
