Watch Nicola Coughlan Read Opening Lines of Bridgerton Season 3

While Bridgerton fans were left a bit disappointed by Netflix’s TUDUM this year, we were treated to Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington, and her alter ego, Lady Whistledown, reading the first few opening lines of Season 3.

While the lines didn’t give away ANY spoilers or details, we can at least be sure that Lady Whistledown has not lost her touch.

The first episode, “Out of Shadows,” starts with the following lines,

“Dearest Gentle Reader, we have been apart from far too long. At last, London’s smart set has made its return, and so too has this author. As the season begins, the question on everyone’s minds is, of course, which newly-minted debutante will shine the brightest? The crop this year appears to be rather dazzling indeed. Unfortunately, not every young lady can attract the light.”

POTENTIAL SPOILERS

These opening lines, whether they will be read by Nicola herself or Julie Andrews (who voiced Lady Whsitledown in the first two seasons), seem to indicate that season 3 will begin the same way the first two seasons began, with the debutante’s court presentation to the Queen.

Paparazzi pictures seem to show a scene where the Bridgerton family is getting ready for Francesca Bridgerton’s presentation. Francesca, who was played by Ruby Stokes in the first two seasons, was recast with Hannah Dodd (Enola Holmes 2, Anatomy of a Scandal). Was that scene the opening scene of Season 3?

Well, Dear Readers, we will just have to wait and see!
