There are some pretty awesome movies out there so it’s hard to narrow down the absolute best ones. Of course, movies are also subjective – which means the “best” movies on lists from critics don’t always line up with fans.
So that’s what we have here: 12 movie fans share the greatest movie they’ve ever watched.
I know I enjoyed a lot of these movies myself but there’s definitely a few here I haven’t seen. If you end up in the same boat this is a sign for both of us to check out some of these great films!
Pulp Fiction

Few movies have come out that compare to Pulp Fiction in terms of quality and lasting impression. It’s sincerely one of the greatest movies of all time by every measure, so it’s no surprise to see it high on the list for movie lovers too.
Carlito’s Way

If you’re on the younger side it’s entirely possible you’ve never even heard of the 1993 blockbuster Carlito’s Way. It’s about a criminal who’s trying to get out of the “business” and retire, but can’t seem to escape his past.
If the story isn’t enough to sell you, note that the script was adapted from the book After Hours by David Koepp (who also did the same for Jurassic Park) and stars Al Pacino.
The Godfather

Speaking of Al Pacino, his much more popular movie masterpiece The Godfather continues to be high on the list of greatest movies – both by regular movie fans and critics.
There Will Be Blood

It should be no surprise to see the eight-time Oscar nominated film There Will Be Blood appear on a list of the best movies people have ever seen. If you’ve been unfortunate enough to miss this period drama, it’s about an oil miner who’s trying to strike it big at the end of the 19th century. A must see!
The Big Lebowski

Polygram Filmed Entertainment.
I think the most shocking thing about The Big Lebowski is that despite it being the best movie some people have ever watched, it actually flopped at the box office and was given mediocre reviews by several critics – including 3/5 stars from Roger Ebert.
Just goes to show that you can’t judge a movie’s success or quality by its theatrical release or reviews!
Whiplash

Sometimes the best movies are Hollywood blockbusters, but other times they’re that quiet independent film that snuck under the radar. That’s especially true for Whiplash; after debuting at Sundance (and winning awards), it was released in North America in only 500 theatres while earning widespread acclaim from critics and award shows (like the Academy Awards).
Whiplash is about an aspiring Jazz drummer who’s a student in a fictional, abusive music conservatory in New York City.
Stand By Me

Definitely up there when it comes to iconic and memorable movies, the coming-of-age drama Stand by Me is still a fan favorite after all these years.
Interstellar

Interstellar is another great example of a movie that got mixed reviews from critics but is widely beloved by movie fans. A dystopian sci-fi directed by icon Christopher Nolan, it’s emotional and thought-provoking. So much so that many people regard it as the best film they’ve ever watched.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

This is one you might not expect to see on a list like this, but trust me when I say that Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind is a fantastic movie. Starring Jim Carrey, it’s about a man who has broken up with his girlfriend and they both undergo a procedure to erase their memories of each other.
The Blues Brothers

Who can’t love The Blues Brothers? Even if you don’t think it’s the greatest movie, it’s hard to disagree that this 1980 musical comedy is fantastic.
Mad Max: Fury Road

Mad Max: Fury Road is one of those movies that will have you enthralled in the story from beginning to end. Truly a wild ride, the way Mad Max makes you feel while you watch (and stays with you after) makes it easy to see why some folks rate it so highly.
The Shining

Heeeeeere’s Johnny! Almost everyone who’s seen the film adaptation of The Shining (except Stephen King) loves it so, unlike several scenes in the movie, there’s no surprise here.
