This is part of the golden age of teen movies that sprung up after the success of American Pie. It tells that classic story of a high school graduate who can’t get into college, so he makes his own instead. No, not a classic?
Well anyway, if you want a feel for the movie you should look at the name of the school he invented: South Harmon Institute of Technology… Or S.H.I.T.
Deep Blue Sea
Jaws wasn’t enough, we needed more. And we got… Deep Blue Sea. The biggest differences are that a) these sharks are an experiment gone wrong, not a natural thing and b) Deep Blue Sea is way campier than the movies that inspired it. But that doesn’t mean some people don’t love it!
Eurotrip
This is actually my pick for terrible movies I’ll defend to everyone I meet, and I’ve even made friends who hadn’t seen it watch this 2000s college movie gem. Not only is it fun and funny, there’s also a hella catchy song in there too!
The Core
Oh man, I forgot this movie existed there for a while. Not sure if that’s a good thing (as in, it’s terrible) or bad (because it’s so bad it’s good). If you haven’t seen it, the plot of this thrilling sci-fi movie is a simple one: the core of the earth has stopped rotating, and a team of scientists has to figure out how to jump start it again. It’s good, ok?
Out Cold
Part teen comedy, part parody, Out Cold someone manages to be so terrible it’s funny – especially with all those one-liners it has going for it. Great for anyone, but snowboarders really seem to eat this one up.
Not Another Teen Movie
If you haven’t watched it, Not Another Teen Movie is a parody of the teen movie genre kind of like how Scary Movie parodies horror. Oh, and it stars Chris Evans.
Hackers
Wait, people think Hackers is bad? Anyway, before she was the mega celebrity she is today Angelina Jolie graced us with her presence in this 1995 science fiction movie about – you guessed it – some hackers.
Rat Race
I recently made my kids watch this one for family movie night so it’s safe to say I’m with the thousands of other people who will defend Rat Race ‘til the end. It has so many great comedians on the cast, how could you not enjoy it?
I’m not alone in that thought, either. Someone said, “Jon Lovitz driving Hitler’s car is, to this day, one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen” which is pretty much Rat Race in a nutshell!
Super Mario Bros. (1993)
Long before we had Jack Black singing Peaches this was the “it” movie for Super Mario fans. Starring a live action Mario and Luigi in a parallel universe to our own this movie is too bizarre to explain: you better just watch it for yourself.
Mortal Kombat (1995)
Yet another movie from my childhood that I absolutely adore. This is my all time favorite scene from the movie, but there are definitely a few gems in here. As a fan of the game and of cinema I understand that this movie isn’t very good, but I, like so many others, love it all the same.
Waterworld
Full disclosure: I had no idea that this movie was often hated until I was older because my dad is a big fan. Even if you do like Waterworld, though, you may still hate one of its different cuts…
