12 Popular TV Show and Movie Series That Some People Just Can’t Stand

Not everything can be your cup of tea, but it does feel weird when you dislike something that’s super popular. Maybe you’re not alone, though! Here are some popular TV shows and movie series that some people just can’t stand watching.

You can pretty much add any reality show to this list safely, too, but we narrowed it down to 12 of the most popular or controversial suggestions we saw.

Do you agree with this list?

American Idol/The X Factor

Of course everyone likes to hate on reality TV as a whole but this take is actually more nuanced. It’s not so much seeing hidden gems that’s an issue (a lot of people enjoyed season 1 of American Idol), it’s that each contestant is either a sob story, someone who’s been training their whole life, or comic relief.

Dr. Phil

I don’t think disliking Dr. Phil as both a person and a show is super controversial, but it is pretty popular in the mainstream too. Not only does his show exploit vulnerable people, he’s not even licensed to practice psychology in the state of California where the show is filmed.

Riverdale

It’s a teen show, yes, but teen shows can be good too! Unfortunately, at least for some people, Riverdale isn’t good – and they can’t understand why it was so popular. Riverdale somehow ran for 7 seasons before finally being cancelled.

13 Reasons Why

This is another teen series where its popularity is confusing for some but for different reasons. The story is problematic, plus it kept going after the main plot (and source material) ended. If you couldn’t get into this phenomenon when it dropped you’re definitely not alone.

Big Bang Theory

It was so popular that it got a spinoff show but that doesn’t mean everyone loves The Big Bang Theory. In fact, some people even think it’s harmful – especially with the way it portrays the characters.

Two Broke Girls

This is another one that seems pretty popular but might not be for everyone. If you didn’t like this one you’re not alone. Some comments even questioned how Two Broke Girls managed to get on the air in the first place.

The Masked Singer

If you want a show that gets people riled up for some reason, The Masked Singer is it. Just take this comment for example:

“I’m actually insulted, as a human being, that other human beings willingly choose to watch this”

Wow, tell us how you really feel!

Grey’s Anatomy

20 seasons (and counting) on the air proves that Grey’s Anatomy has an avid fanbase. That much time also means it had plenty of space to find folks who dislike the show and continue to be shocked each time it’s renewed.

Fast & Furious (Movie Franchise)

I admit that I watched the first couple of movies but it just keeps going and going! I guess that’s a testament to its popularity at the box office… But it’s also easy to see why it becomes more polarizing with each iteration.

Twilight

This will especially resonate with anyone who was a young adult or teen when these movies were coming out but couldn’t get into them. In some circles it definitely felt like you were the only person who didn’t like them!

SNL

A bit controversial of a suggestion but a lot of folks agreed. So many famous comedians got their start on the show but with a changing cast and writing team it’s not always funny.

Lord of the Rings

I even disagree with this one, but apparently, there are people out there who didn’t enjoy the series. They say it’s long and boring… And well, I guess there is some merit to that. Especially if you’re not into fantasy.
