Maybe you’ve run out of things to watch (it happens, no judgment), or you just want something that’s a little off the beaten path. Either way, you’re in luck! We’ve found some underrated TV shows for you to add to your “watch next.”
Critics and reviewers didn’t necessarily underrate these shows, but they definitely weren’t paid attention to in the mainstream in the way they deserved!
Rome

Rome is kind of like Game of Thrones meets a History Channel documentary. It tells the true story of Marc Anthony, Julius Caesar, and Cleopatra through dramatic reenactment and weigh-ins from historians. You don’t even need to be a history buff to appreciate it… But if you are one (like me), this show is even more binge-worthy.
The Righteous Gemstones

Now’s a great time to get into this amazing HBO show, with Season 3 currently airing.
John Goodman plays a megachurch patriarch trying to wrangle his very unchristian children. If you like dark comedies, this one’s for you.
Fringe

Fringe is a bit of a throwback, but it does come up often enough on underrated TV show lists that it’s definitely worth mentioning here. If you missed it while it aired, Fringe was a science fiction series created by J.J. Abrams about a team investigating weird scientific phenomena.
Dead Like Me

Another older dark comedy you might have missed, Dead Like Me stars an eighteen-year-old woman who, after being killed by a falling space rock, finds she’s become a grim reaper. It was, unfortunately, canceled pretty quickly, though. I guess that means it’s just the right length to binge-watch!
Black Sails

Ever watch Pirates of the Caribbean and think, “I wish this was more adult and was also a TV show with four seasons”? If the answer is yes, I have an amazing show suggestion for you. Don’t let the critic reviews fool you; Black Sails is a great, underrated TV show that’s definitely worth checking out.
Deadwood

I don’t know if I can say Deadwood is completely underrated since it won a Golden Globe back in 2004, but chances are, if you weren’t into watching HBO back then, you probably missed this gripping period drama. Without giving too much away, Deadwood takes place post civil-war in a lawless mining town during a gold rush.
Travelers

Travelers is one of those shows that Netflix dropped with very little fanfare, so you shouldn’t feel bad if you missed this one when it came out. At the time of writing, this sci-fi series about the last surviving humans from the far future sending their consciousness back to our time, seemingly at random, is sitting with a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Garth Merenghi’s Dark Place

You might have seen the works that this show’s cast went on to do, like the Mighty Boosh, IT Crowd, UK version of The Office, and, most notably, the Paddington movies, even if you missed this hilarious 2004 British horror television series. Part 80s-style horror parody, part soap opera; I’m sincere when I say you’ve never seen anything quite like Garth Merenghi’s Dark Place.
The Good Place

Although it was popular when it came out, The Good Place makes this list because so many people gave up on it prematurely before seeing what the show’s plot actually was. If you abandoned this show halfway through season 1 I’m begging you to give it a chance.
Mr. Robot

Don’t let the edgy, kinda nerdy plot description of Mr. Robot fool you, it’s actually an amazing TV show. Starring a computer programmer by day, and a hacker vigilante by night, it’s shocking how many people seemed to miss this outstanding techno-thriller tv show.
The Orville

A lot of folks liken the Orville to the original Star Trek series. I find it feels like they took inspiration from one of my favorite movies, Galaxy Quest. Regardless, anyone who likes sci-fi is going to appreciate this hilarious (written by Seth McFarlane) space comedy set 400 years in the future.
Person of Interest

Last but definitely not least – one of my favorite underrated TV shows! I saw Person of Interest come up on another list and just had to include it because I thought I was the only person who remembered it. Basically, a former CIA agent and billionaire tech genius team up as vigilantes to solve crimes, and it’s amazing.
The Abrupt Endings of These 8 Netflix Shows That Left Viewers Unsatisfied

The worst part of having your favorite show canceled is that you never get to see the ending and never find out what happened to all the characters. If there was a good ending, the fans might not be upset!
