Scene-Stealing Comedy: 20 Films With One Moment That Left Us Gasping For Air

Comedy is a tricky genre. Comedy movies may seem easy with no fixed plots and insistence on being logical. Still, their execution has to be just right to impact the audience.

For some films, the timing and delivery are so good that one scene has you gasping for air. It is all about the timing and delivery, and these movies hit the bullseye!

1. Rat Race (2001)

Though the star of this movie is Jim Carrey, popular opinion says that Steve Carrel takes the cake when it comes to his deliverance of the most perfect scenes in comedy. Carrel’s news anchor gibberish scene is a fan favorite. Some fans claim that the comedic jokes translate just as well in other languages! It is truly a masterpiece.

Vampires are always associated with being classy, but we all think about how they deal with being hundreds of years old and adjusting to modern life. If you have this question, this movie will answer most of your questions. The opening scene will leave you crying with laughter, and from then on, watch as these vampires share a flat and tackle modern life.

This one is for those who love sci-fi comedy. Starring the famous Alan Rickman, the film is about a group of actors mistakenly recognized as superheroes by an alien race. Jack Black has undoubtedly made his mark in the comedy world because his performance is nothing short of perfect in this genre. While exaggerating the absurdity of Hollywood actors, this movie is packed full of scenes that you will remember, such as when Downey’s character undergoes surgery to get darker skin so he can play a black actor. It’s a little controversial but absolutely hilarious.

8. Monty Python And The Holy Grail (1975)

Packed with full of classic British sarcasm, this movie is a favorite for those who genuinely appreciate British humor. It is based on witty wordplay and a unique way of delivering the most ridiculous lines. The one scene that is just comedy gold is Lancelot storming the castle but running in the same place for one minute straight. Beware! You might have to take a break because you will be gasping for air at the sheer stupidity.

9. Borat (2006)

Borat is a one-of-a-kind comedy movie because it blurs the line between reality and fiction. Don’t be fooled by the mockumentary tag. This will still have you rolling with laughter, so much so that you may miss some funnier lines. At least that’s what the fans say! The hotel fight is a fan favorite in the whole movie.

10. Anchorman (2004)

This one is one of the newer movies to make the list, but the story takes place in the 1970s. Starring Hollywood legends like Russell Crowe, the acting and the comedy is world-class. Especially the Ankle Gun scene, it is perfectly set up and is executed to perfection. Everything just hits the mark with this one.

The first Kung Pow movie was released in 2002, breaking the box office as one of the best martial arts comedy films. It is a parody of a 1976 Chinese Martial arts film called Tiger and Crane Fist. The best-rated scene in this movie is when a lady rolls a baby down the hill – believe me, with context, this scene will have you gasping.

13. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994)

A comedy sequel is rarely as good as the original movie. Still, Jim Carrey carries the role with the same hilarity as a pet detective called Ace Ventura. Team America is a satirical comedy film created by the creators of South Park. This movie is the first on the list of being an incorrect political comedy. If you are a South Park lover, you will find this movie hilarious, too. It plays well with the tone and timing of dialogue, such as the passive line while the Panama Canal explodes. It is all in the timing.
